Two months have gone by since Ian slammed in our neighborhood. Our street was luckier than most with many of the homes still standing, although damaged. Almost all of the lower units were wiped out, but today, a few people are back on the street. We have power and water and are thankful that we were spared the brunt of the storm surge. The rest of our neighborhood was not so lucky. This week, I took my camera and walked around the block. This is what I saw.
This house, on the corner of Lauder and Lanark was destroyed Frank, who owns this house, plans to rebuild. Less damage than Frank, but not untouched.Some homes needed to be cleared completely.Flags have appeared all over the island.The Women’s Club, an historic structure built in the 40s, suffered quite a bit of damage.Most street signs are gone, but some remain in a different form.Although much debris has been picked up, more piles up as people continue to clean out their homes.The laundry and car wash were completely destroyed.RVs are a common sight as people begin the reconstruction process.Once on Estero Blvd, the damage was even worseThe newer homes were not damaged as badly as the older cottages.Another beach front cottage gone.This is the view from Estero.
